An out-of-control city bus crashed into several parked cars early on Friday morning when the driver suffered a heart attack at the wheel. The accident, in which "miraculously" - according to onlookers - no one else was injured, occurred at 8.15am in Calle Héroe de Sostoa.

Out of control, the bus left its lane and ploughed into at least nine parked cars, pulling up trees and scattering refuse containers as it went.

When the emergency services arrived on the scene the only person who needed treatment was the 49-year-old driver, who responded to resuscitation attempts and was rushed to hospital in a serious but stable condition. He had recently passed a company medical check-up.

The 13 passengers on the bus at the time were all able to leave the vehicle unhurt, according to the city's bus company, EMT.
