Last week, vets Javier Engel and Santiago Durán, owners of the Hospital Animal Bluecare, successfully operated on Zelda, a pomeranian dog, using pioneering techniques.

Zelda was born with a heart defect at birth which drastically reduced her life expectancy. However Zelda can now look forward to a long, happy life after the vets used a technique similar to catheterisation to operate on her heart through a tiny three millimetre incision in her neck. She was able to go home just one day after the operation.

Hospital Animal Bluecare is the only veterinary centre in Andalucía that performs this type of heart surgery on animals as small as Zelda, who weighs only 3.85 kilogrammes.

The centre also offers the implantation of pacemakers and the treatment of heart worm.
