The Casa de los Navajas in Torremolinos is currently hosting an exhibition by Cadiz artist, Mariemma Yagüe. Under the title of ‘Our Voice’, the artist’s work reflects on discrimination against women in the workplace and in wider society.
Organised by the Delegation of Cultural Promotion, in collaboration with the Tourism Board of Torremolinos, the exhibition comprises 12 acrylic works that stand out for their creativity, sensitivity and colorful depictions of women. Her paintings have a fresh Mediterranean flavour and strong elements mixing realism and fantasy, while highlighting the plight of women in Africa, Latin America and India.
The artist, who is based in Malaga, has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including galleries in Rome, Stockholm, Paris and New York. She has also participated in major international contemporary art fairs, such as the Salon International d’Art Contemporain in Paris.
Mariemma Yagüe is an artist who is especially committed to the issue of equality for women. She is a member of the Association of Female Researchers and Technologists of Spain, and the Association of Artists of Malaga.
The exhibition, which is free, will continue until 17 February and can be visited Monday to Sunday 11am - 2pm, and 6pm - 8pm.
