The 27-year-old man arrested in Manilva on Tuesday over possible links to terrorist group Daesh has been placed in prison without bail after it was revealed that he had stated his in intention to carry out an attack on the town's fair.

M. L. had recorded a video in August 2018 at the Feria de Manilva saying that that was where he was going to carry out the attack and that he wasn't afraid to die because he was going to be a martyr.

According to a press release from the public prosecutor's office on Friday, 'Anwar Andalosi', as he is known on social media, had direct contact with members of Daesh in Syria, declared his intention to join them and pledged his loyalty to the group's leader, Omar Bakr El Baghdadi.

He also showed interest in buying firearms and knives on the 'dark web' and in the past months viewed a large amount of videos published by Daesh, many of which featured murders and beheadings.

In response to the news, mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez said: "We have to keep working to erradicate this scourge on our society." He also assured residents that all appropriate measures were being taken to protect everyone during the various festivities held in the town.
