  • A series of sponsored walks in support of the Salón Varietés will be held in different locations on the coast to overcome boundary restrictions

A series of sponsored walks are being organised to help raise money for the struggling Salón Varietés theatre in Fuengirola.

The initiative, Save the Salon Hike, was originally due to be held in just Benalmádena, but due to the closure of municipal boundaries to halt the spread of the pandemic, organisers are now planning a series of simultaneous walks in Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Mijas to enable more people to participate.

Along with the main hikes, which will take place on Saturday 20 February, organisers are also appealing to people to arrange their own walks wherever they are based. These can be long treks into the country, or simply walking around a park or along the beach.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding the ever changing Covid-19 regulations, the routes of the Fuengirola and Mijas walks have not yet been decided, but the Benalmádena hike will take walkers up Mount Calamorro via the Telecabina Route.

The hikers will meet at 11.30am (walk begins at midday) at the Inicio de Sendero (R1) point in Calle Miami in Arroyo de la Miel. The eight-kilometre hike is expected to take approximately five hours and participants are advised to wear suitable foot ware and to bring snacks and plenty of water.

The fundraising initiative offers a prize to the person who raises the most in sponsorship.
