For years Primark has resisted taking the step to offer an online store. However, this now set to change as the low-cost fashion chain appears prepared to finally make the leap.
According to the company’s announced road map, the fashion giant is preparing to open an online store in the UK, offering the opportunity for customers to shop from home. The chain anticipates that the service will then be expanded to the other 13 markets where they operate next autumn. And that is when the service will be available to customers in Spain.
At the moment, shoppers on the Costa del Sol have to visit one of the physical store locations in Malaga province. Primark currently has two shops in the city and two in Marbella. But, in the future, the option to select fashion items on its new online website will be available. However, there will not be a home delivery service, meaning consumers must still visit one of the shops for collection.
Online retailing is experiencing a boom at the moment and Primark wants to reinforce its position in the fashion world. However, the chain is not yet willing to go all the way with home delivery. With this decision, the brand seeks to close the gap with other textile giants such as Inditex or Shein, who already focus on e-commerce sales.
