Following a referendum in the Axarquía village of El Borge in Malaga province earlier this year in which residents were asked to vote on the use of fireworks during local festivities, Iznate, which is also in the Axarquía, has announced that it will be limiting the use of pyrotechnics during its feria which begin on Thursday 21 March and will finish on Easter Sunday.
Although the town hall, which has 915 registered inhabitants on its 'padrón' (register) did not put the question to the vote, it has laid out specific timetable and said that it will be limiting the amount of fireworks.

The residents of Iznate have woken up to the sound of rockets signalling the start of the festivities that honour the village’s patron the Virgen de los Dolores, “since ancient times” the town hall said in a statement posted on its social media.
However, the statement went on to say that "times have changed, and now a significant part of the population does not feel comfortable with fireworks displays, as they bother some of the population, mainly small children, people with disabilities and also, to some extent, pet owners (dogs), who are also affected by the launching of these rockets".
The town hall therefore announced that "the use of these pyrotechnics will be significantly reduced, and in addition, a timetable will be established for the launching of rockets, so that the population is aware of them and so that those residents who are uncomfortable can be prepared”.
