Councillors in Mijas have announced plans to build into planned modifications to the PGOU master town plan changes which allow them to build 1,100 more units of social housing.
The new homes will be on land in the Torreblanca del Sol area in the municipality, which is currently having its master plan modified for a planned new housing development.
"Its not compulsory to use this land for this type of affordable home for locals, but the council team believes that the local population has the right to a home and public authorities have to promote this type of initiative. We're pleased to have reached an agreement for 30 per cent of the homes to be this type of housing," said councillor for Planning, Andrés Ruiz.

The council has reduced the amount of homes allowed in the Torreblanca del Sol development area, both normal properties and assisted housing, from 6,313 to just 3,547. The area is located inland from Torreblanca in Fuengirola towards Mijas Pueblo and near the A-7 motorway.
"We're reducing the building density because our commitment is to carry out sustainable urban development," added Ruiz.
