Pro Dunas raises awareness of poor beach conditions

  • The beach protection association warns that Real de Zaragoza beach is in such a bad state that the area's water pipes have surfaced

Pro Dunas, a group of volunteers dedicated to the conservation of beaches in east Marbella, has alerted the public to the startling damage caused to Real de Zaragoza beach by the winter and early spring storms.

The group stated that approximately two metres of sand was swallowed up to leave water pipes exposed for up to 300 metres along the beach, and also expressed concerns over safety. “For how long will the pipes resist the weight of the machinery used to clean the beaches?” asked Susanne Stamm, the group’s spokesperson, who fears the pipe will burst and empty its contents onto the sand.

The group also criticised the lack of action taken by Marbella council to repair beaches in the east of the town, despite numerous requests from residents.
