His tour carries the name of his new album, Blood Red Roses, but Rod Stewart's audience of 9,000 in Fuengirola on Wednesday night barely got a taste of it.
Instead he gave them what they wanted - classic after classic, which he announced as "old rubbish" with his usual irony.
The concert was not without a tribute to the 75th anniversary of D-Day in the form of Rhythm of my Heart and he took fans back to the days of The Faces with Stay With Me, covered classics by Bonnie Tyler and Etta James before finishing with Da Ya Think I'm Sexy and Maggie May.
