Excursion in the Alpujarras

Some members of The Field Club recently enjoyed a walking trip to the Alpujarras on the south slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

The Field Club meets every Monday from 10.30 to 11.30am in the Hogar de Pensionistas in Fuengirola. The club organises long and short walk programmes and various social events. www.thefieldclub.org or email thefieldclub.information@gmail.com

The Poppy Appeal 2018

A prize draw held at Parque La Viña in Mollina raised over 300 euros to start this year's poppy appeal. The day included not only a prize draw but entertainment by local comedian Laurie Arundalea. The meeting also saw the chairman present a record number of new members (five) with their badges.

Visit to the botanical gardens

Members of Shutterbugs met at the botanical cactus gardens in Casarabonela which has 2,500 species of cacti, the largest collection of cacti and succulents in Spain.

Lux Mundi Torre del Mar

Trip to Grazalema and Ubrique

Friends of Lux Mundi, Torre del Mar recently went on a day trip to the villages of Ubrique and Grazalema. On arrival in Ubrique they visited the Leather Museum for a guided tour. The group then travelled through the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema and visited the Artesanía Textil factory where there is a display of machinery from the 19th century and a selection of handcrafted woollen garments and blankets.

May Howard Fun Walk

Raising money for Cudeca

The second edition of the Fun Walk organised by May Howard, raised almost 4,000 euros for the Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice.

Participants had the opportunity to visit several bars en route, all of which had supported May by donating a gift to the raffle.

El Zoco bar was the final destination and there the raffle took place with 57 prizes, including hotel stays, beauty vouchers, restaurant and bar vouchers and even the opportunity to have a tattoo.

Age Concern Fuengirola and Mijas

Packing bags and chatting

The Fuengirola and Mijas branch of Age Concern will be packing bags and answering customers' questions at Iceland Overseas, Miramar Retail Park, Fuengirola on Saturday 3 November, 11am - 3pm.

This is a great opportunity to talk to the volunteers about the charity - what they can do or how they could help.

Age Concern have three local weekly drop-in social clubs and a charity shop in Los Boliches.

The charity is dedicated to fighting loneliness and isolation within the expat community and are always grateful for new volunteers. Anyone who is interested in helping the charity will be welcome to come into Iceland Overseas and talk to Age Concern representatives.
