International polo teams battled it out over two days last weekend in the first Costa del Sol Beach Polo Cup held in Estepona. International players included patrons Niclas Johansson, Veronica and Lauran Desmas, Jaspar and Kate Kühlwein and the high level professionals Jamie Le Hardy, Santí Torreguitar and Hernan Pieres.

The final was played between Perrier Jouet and Kempinski Hotel Bahía, with both teams battling it out until the end, when Kempinski Hotel Bahía eventually achieved victory.

The winners were presented with their trophies by the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano. The mayor congratulated Isabel de Borbón and her polo events company, Polo4Ever, for its work in promoting beach polo on the Costa del Sol and the principal sponsor Kempinski Hotel Bahía for its work in bringing the innovative sporting event to Estepona.

The event was attended by both locals and polo enthusiasts who were keen to see the action up close. The excellent weather conditions made it an ideal setting for the event, which the mayor has confirmed will be held at the same location in subsequent years.

Following the matches there were two separate events held at the Spiler Beach Club, which were attended by prominent members of local society including Countess Gunilla Bismarck, Princess Bea Auersperg, Princess María and Prince Pablo Von Hohenlohe with their daughters Allegra and Cecilia.
