In the early hours of Sunday, Luxembourg's most wanted fugitive was arrested in Puerto Banús while celebrating his birthday.

The European arrest warrant under his name was put out for charges of attempted murder, illegal weapons trafficking, violent robbery and belonging to a criminal organisation.

The detainee took part in an attempted heist of the central offices of a security firm in Luxembourg City in 2013, in which the attackers used explosives and fired more than 80 shots with heavy weapons.

When he was arrested, he was carrying a false identity card in order to evade the authorities. The Luxembourg authorities are recommending a 22-year sentence.
