September and October strike unrest continues to threaten air-travellers

  • Unsettled conditions at Spanish airports could continue into next month

September strike unrest at airline Ryanair and October walkouts at Iberia's ground-handling operation continue to threaten to disrupt passengers in Spain this autumn.

So far ongoing action by Spanish-based cabin crews and pilots over Ryanair's plans to close its bases in the Canaries and Girona has been offset by the airline bringing in crews from other countries. The company said this week it would operate all flights on upcoming strike days including today, Friday 20th, and September 22nd.

Further Spanish Ryanair action is planned on 27th and 29th. UK pilots at the airline also plan to stage unrelated stoppages on 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29 September.

Meanwhile, unsettled conditions at Spanish airports could continue into next month as unions call for stoppages by Iberia ground staff every Monday of October over complaints about working conditions. Iberia also supplies ground-handling services to other airlines.
