Several hundred people queued outside Marbella town hall on Wednesday after the council announced it would be opening up a register for some 500 temporary job posts it will need to fill over the coming years. The majority of the jobs are cleaning, maintenance and gardening posts that will need to be occupied at various stages of the year.

The lists that residents could sign up for are independent of each other and 10 per cent of future jobs are reserved for those with a disability of 33 per cent severity, or higher.

Mayor José Bernal explained that this system would give the town hall access to workers as and when it needed them and gave applicants equal opportunities due to the degree of transparency.
