million people over the age of 65 (9,057,193) live in Spain, according to INE figures from 2019, which is 19.3% of the total. Octogenarians represent 6.1%, and there are 16,303 people over the age of 100. The average age of the population is 43.3 years, while in 1970 it was 32.7.

Evolution
According to the World Bank, in 2019 people aged 65 and over represented 9.1% of the population of the planet, double the figure in 1960, when it was under 5%. In absolute numbers, at that time there were 150 million people, and now there are 697 million.
