Granada jazz festival, one of the oldest in Europe

GranadaThe Festival Internacional de Jazz Granada is one of the most anticipated events of the autumn for jazz lovers every year. Running for nearly forty years, it is one of the oldest jazz festivals in Europe. Since the very first edition it has showcased the best of national and international jazz with musicians such as Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey, Tete Montoliu, Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Chucho Valdés among the many who have performed at the event.

This year the festival starts today, Friday 2 November, with an opening performance by saxofonist Melissa Aldana and her quartet. The followng evening contemporary jazz musician James Carter will be in concert and on Sunday 4 November it is the turn of pianist Eliane Elias. On 7 November, Bill Evans and Randy Brecker joins drummer SimonPhillips in concert.

Joe Barbieri presents his recent recording, Origami, on 8 November. Stanley Clark, co-founder with Chick Corea of Return to Forever will be in concert on 9 November and Stacey Kent, winner of the British Jazz Award among many others, will perform for the closing concert on Saturday 10 November.
