The National Police have arrested 13 people as part of an operation to find those responsible for bank robberies, worth up to 400,000 euros, in Marbella and Barcelona.

Three of those arrested were brothers who belonged to the famous Los Dalton gang from the Portada Alta area of Malaga city, whose leaders were placed behind bars in August 2016 for a thwarted raid on a bank in the capital, Madrid.

Police believe that these brothers, as well as several family members, are responsible at least two bank robberies. The most recent was to the Bankinter branch on Avenida Ricardo Soriano in Marbella last September, where the perpetrators took off with 200,000 euros (as well as a safe filled with jewellery with an estimated value of 120,000 euros) after entering through a hole made in the manager's office from an adjacent property.

This raid followed a similar one in Barcelona in March last year where they managed to take 80,000 euros in cash.

Police are still investigating to determine if the group are the perpetrators of two further bank robberies in which similar methods were employed. Nine of the 13 arrested were put in front of the court on Wednesday.
