Catalan party condemned over illegal commissions

  • Companies won contracts for the regional government through bribery

A court has proved that CDC, a nationalist political party that ran Catalonia for almost three decades, illegally financed itself by charging four per cent commission to companies in return for awarding contracts for public works.

The scheme to syphon off funds used the Palau de la Música, a historic concert venue in Barcelona.

Two former officials there were sentenced for a total of 16 years.
