Marbella's Christmas lights will be switched on today (Thursday) at 8pm in the Paseo de la Alameda. There are 545 lights decorating 90 streets and 15 squares which will stay on for 38 days in total and, as in Malaga centre, will "dance" to music in a spectacular daily show. The Christmas decorations this year include eight Nativity scenes, four Christmas trees, and lights saying "Feliz Navidad" and "Feliz Año Nuevo".
This year, the lights are not just a festive decoration but they will also attract people to the town centre shops, as the lights display in Malaga has done.
The Christmas lights in Marbella were constructed by the lighting company from Cordoba, Ximenez, who also put up the lights in Malaga. For the daily lights and sound show, Ximenez has desiged a sound system which is connected to the main lights and the strings of smaller lights.
The churches and main roundabouts in Marbella will be decorated with festive images and lights. The Marbella events councillor highlighted that he hopes that the decorations will "liven up the shopping areas in the town".
The Chrismas lights in Fuengirola, which also feature a light and sound display three times daily, were switched on last Friday. The lights in San Pedro are also being switched on today, at 7.30pm.
