Police in Gibraltar were warning people to keep away from La Atunara area of La Línea de la Concepción on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as riots broke out after two men drowned when their boat developed difficulties.
The 51-year-old and 19-year-old are believed to have been involved in drug smuggling, and local people accused the Guardia Civil of not doing enough to save them.
Rioters set up road blocks, set fire to rubbish bins and there were unconfirmed reports that they threw rocks at Gibraltar-plated cars which passed through the area.
The RGP warning was extended to Wednesday as further conflict was anticipated as the two men's funerals took place.
