Ara Malikian was born in Lebanon in 1968 to a family of Armenian origin. His gift for playing the violin was discovered at an early age and he has since developed into a composer and unique musician. His talent was quickly noticed and at the age of fourteen he won a scholarship to study at the Graduate School of Music in Hanover, Germany. He worked hard, studying for between ten and twelve hours a day and then moved to London to train at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
That last move was twenty years ago and he continues to expand and grow his own blend of music using his Armenian roots with its oriental and gypsy harmonies, adding Jewish klezmer music, Spanish flamenco, Argentian tango and Cuban rumba.
His passion is hard to ignore. Hyperactive and hardworking, he pursues excellence through his music, carrying the audience along with his energy.
