After five defeats in six games, Marbella brought their disastrous run to an end in the best possible way with a 2-0 win over relegation rivals Almería B at the Estadio Antonio Lorenzo on Sunday.
A straight red card for Batalla early in the second half was the turning point. The Almería goalkeeper took down Juanma just outside the area as he looked certain to score.
This further weakened the visitors whose squad was hit by a virus in the build-up to the game.
Marbella took full advantage and within three minutes had the lead thanks to Álex Bernal who converted Jürgen's cross from the left.
Another four minutes later and it was 2-0. Añón, who had just come off the bench, powered home a header to seal the outcome of the game.
The win, the first under new coach Cubillo, lifts Marbella out of the relegation zone into 14th. Crucially, Los Blanquillos have sealed a better head-to-head record over their rivals on Sunday.
