Airport breaks 19-million passenger barrier in 2018 with a growth of 2.1% on 2017

  • Last year also saw the record number of take-offs and landings at the Costa del Sol airport

MAlaga. Passenger figures at Malaga Airport broke the 19-million barrier in 2018 for the first time, despite the slump in growth in international tourism on the Costa del Sol. The total grew by 2.1% to 19,021,704 travellers, according to figures from the Spanish airport operator Aena.

The figures remained positive last year thanks to the increase in passengers travelling on domestic flights as the health of Spanish tourism improves.

Last year also saw a record number of take-offs and landings at the Costa el Sol airport, up 3% on 2017's figure to 141,313, of which 109,447 were to international destinations. More people travelled between Malaga and the UK than any other country, with a total of 5,727,978 passengers in 2018. 1,580,351 people travelled between Malaga and German airports and 1,145,458 passengers used Malaga Airport to get to and from France.
