November looks like it will be a key month in the build-up to Christmas thanks to the increasing availability of Black Friday discounts.
According to data from the retail sector nationally, people in Spain are planning on spending an average of 256 euros each on gifts this Christmas season, a 9.6% increase on last year.
A study by Deloitte has shown that for the first time the willingness to shop for Christmas is higher in November than the first fortnight of December. It says that 33% of consumers will buy gifts, taking advantage of the Black Friday tradition recently brought in from America, while 30.3% will wait for early next month. In addition it found that 11.3% will buy most of their presents in the next few days, up from 8.7% last year.
However representatives of small and traditional shops in Malaga and the Costa del Sol have criticised big chains for running Black Friday offers over a longer period, impacting negatively on their members.
