Huge stash of baby eels found in cases at airport

The Guardia Civil at Malaga airport has announced that it has seized 20 kilos of elvers (baby eels) found stored in water-filled plastic bags inside luggage.

The four cases had been checked in for a flight to Hong Kong via Zurich when the officers became suspicious of the contents.

Experts say that the type of eel seized can fetch up to 1,500 euros per kilo on the Asian market.
