  • Marbella has applied for 15 million from the urban development fund

The town hall in Marbella has submitted an application for 15 million euros to the European Union urban development and sustainability fund. The EU is to allocate 189 million euros from the fund to Andalucía and this week local councillors in Marbella submitted their ideas for a share of it.

Around a third of the amount requested would be on run-down areas like parks and squares, especially in non-central districts. In addition they are asking for support for 'smart city' and energy-efficiency related projects, accessibility schemes and new community buildings.

If the money is awarded, it will have to be spent by 2022 and the town hall has to add a further 20 per cent from its own funds.
