A judge has decided that Iñaki Urdangarin, husband of Infanta Cristina who is sister of the current king, can leave prison twice a week to do voluntary work.
The former Duke of Palma was sentenced to five years and 10 months in 2018 for his part in the Caso Noós corruption scandal, drawing on his links to the monarchy.
The aim of the release is to avoid "social isolation" although prosecutors have objected to the move which apparently goes against prison service guidelines. He will be allowed out a total of 16 hours a week.
