  • The plan has been held back for over 10 years by opposition from the approximately 100 owners of farmland which runs along the 1.2-kilometre stretch of undeveloped beach

Nerja town hall has said it is hoping to reactivate plans to develop the El Playazo beach area which lies to the west of the town, between the Chíllar and Seco rivers.

The plan has been included in Nerja's PGOU (general urban development plan) for over 10 years but has been held back by opposition from the approximately 100 owners of farmland which runs along the 1.2-kilometre stretch of untouched beach.

Included in the town hall's plans are hotels and up to 1,200 homes.

The councillor responsible for Urban Development, Nieves Atencia, said that her Partido Popular party would be keeping its "electoral commitment to develop El Playazo".

The controversial development of land outside Maro which will include hotels, homes and a golf course also forms part of Nerja's PGOU.
