The Junta de Andalucía has granted permission for two meat factories, Icarybe S.L. in Benaoján (Malaga province) and Sabores de Paterna in Paterna de la Rivera (Cadiz province) to recommence production.

Both were told to cease operations when some of their products were found to be contaminated by the Listeria bacteria responsible for the largest listeriosis outbreak experienced in Andalucía (over 200 cases and three deaths).

However, the regional Health ministry on Monday announced that it was satisfied that both had carried out the necessary inspections and could resume production. In the case of the Benaoján factory, the production of 'carne mechada' and 'chicharrones' remains suspended, however.
