After serving the expat community in Torremolinos for more than 16 years, an English greetings cards shop shut its doors for the last time on Wednesday. A Date to Remember has been offering greetings cards, stationery and party decorations since 2002, but owner, Sue Gillaspy, has decided to sell the business and enjoy her retirement.

The shop, known locally as "the English card shop" has been a popular meeting place for expats, many of whom made use of the second-hand book club and the weekly UK postal service. It was also where many expats collected a copy of this newspaper every Friday.

"I've been in Spain for over 30 years and I have had some good times here and I have made many friends over the years, but now is the time to start enjoying my retirement. Unfortunately, not many younger people send birthday and Christmas cards now, as most use social media," Sue told SUR in English.

The shop, which was located off Calle San Miguel, will now be converted into offices.
