Setback for footballer's gastro market in Arroyo de la Miel
  • Real Madrid star Isco wants to upgrade the San Juan centre in the shopping area

Plans for a gastro market in an underused building in central Arroyo de la Miel will have to be scaled back.

Top Spanish international and Real Madrid footballer, Isco Alcarcón, wants to convert and upgrade the San Juan shopping centre to include a gastro market. Isco, who is from Benalmádena, currently owns the empty first floor and some downstairs units.

Initial plans presented sought to add an extra level. However engineers have come back and said that the supporting columns in the building, built almost 40 years ago, cannot take the additional weight, so the extension upwards will have to be dropped.

Final plans, focusing more on boutique shopping, are expected to be presented to the council shortly. The building currently houses businesses including tapas bars, with each shop unit owned separately.
