A new solar panel park is to be opened on the outskirts of the town of Archidona, in inland Malaga province. The contract has been awarded to Marbella-based firm Ansasol, a renewable-energy specialist.

The park will have 28,000 photovoltaic modules which will be installed in an environmentally friendly way, whereby the top soil and vegetation on the ground is undisturbed by concrete intrusions.

The five hectare site in the northern part of the municipality will be surrounded by a two-metre-high fence and the electricity created by the cells will be fed into the national grid.

Archidona council says that two companies bid for the project and that currently the council is advertising the project as it is at public consultation phase. The Junta de Andalucía is responsible for authorising it.
