Gestational diabetes does not go away forever

Women with gestational diabetes are given personalised diet and exercise plans to help them control their glucose levels. However studies show that this type of diabetes is not permanently cured.

The most recent figures from the pregnancy and diabetes department in the Hospital Clínico reveal that five to ten years after suffering gestational diabetes it is likely that a sufferer will contract diabetes again. Experts highlight how important it is for a woman who has suffered gestational diabetes to live a healthy life and eat a healthy diet.
