After two consecutive victories, Malaga’s women’s side were stopped in their tracks by Granada on Sunday morning.
It was the visitors, buoyed by their fightback against Valencia B last weekend, who made the brighter start with Claudia hitting a long-range effort narrowly over the bar in the opening stages. Granada, for their part, gradually felt their way into the game.
Noe shook the visitors’ bar from a free kick midway through the first half, while further chances would present themselves to Malaga’s Encarni and Granada’s Alicia before half time.
The hosts took the lead 10 minutes after the restart; substitute Coronel fed Santibáñez, who made no mistake in front of goal.
In response, María Ruíz, Cinthia and Edna all came on for Malaga and changed the dynamic of the game.
Ruíz thought she had equalised on 84 minutes, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.
However, when Lauri latched onto a dreadful backpass to make it 2-0 deep into added time, Malaga were left rueing missed opportunities as their brief winning streak came to a close.
