There were 1.32 million new cars sold in Spain in 2018, an increase of seven per cent on the previous year.
Seat was once again the top make of car sold last year, followed by Volkswagen, Peugeot, Renault, then Opel in the top five.
The top-selling model of car was the Seat León, with 34,897 sales, and there were several models very close together within the top ten.
Second-placed model in the national top ten was the Seat Ibiza, (31,392 sold); Nissan Qashqai, (31,287); Dacia Sandero, (31,310); Renault Mégane, (29,082); Renault Clio, (28,859); Volkswagen Polo, (28,173); Volkswagen Golf, (27,090); Citroën C4, (26,193); and the Peugeot 3008,(22,870).
In terms of commercial vehicles, such as vans, Peugeot and Citroën occupy the first two spots for the top makes, followed by Renault and Ford.
The data was released jointly on Thursday by the association of car manufacturers (Anfac), dealerships association (Faconauto) and car repairers group (Ganvam).
