Torremolinos town hall has praised the rapid and effective intervention of Local Police officers in the attempted suicide of a teenager last week.

The incident took place on one of the bridges that cross over the AP-7 motorway, after several drivers contacted the emergency services to warn that a young man was standing on the edge of the bridge. The worried motorists told the authorities that the youngster looked as though he intended to jump.

Five officers were dispatched to the scene and, after talking the young man away from the edge, effectively brought the situation under control.

The youngster, who has not been named, had allegedly announced his suicide in a WhatsApp group.

Councillor for Citizen Security Antonio Ruiz said, "We want to congratulate the Local Police of Torremolinos for their exceptional skill. We are extremely grateful for their rapid intervention."
