All change in the contract to collect rubbish throughout Fuengirola and clean some of its streets. The council has voted to swap Urbaser as the provider of a big part of its waste management services and replace it with FCC.

The change will take place on 1 January and comes after a court found in favour of a complaint and subsequent appeal by FCC that the awarding of a contract in a tender process to Urbaser in 2015 had been unfair.

At a meeting of the council this week, the town's mayor, Ana Mula, said Fuengirola would comply with the ruling while maintaining that engineers had correctly carried out the original contract award. Refuse and cleaning staff currently working for Urbaser will transfer over to FCC. Workers have had ongoing labour disputes with Urbaser.
