Smoking is already banned on some beaches in Galicia, Asturias, Catalonia, Murcia, the Balearic Islands and the Canaries, and in Andalucía too, although only on the Granada beach in Motril where anyone who throws a cigarette end on the sand can face a fine of up to 3,000 euros.

In the Canaries, smoking is banned on several beaches in Gran Canaria, where fines of up to 400 euros are imposed for smoking and 1,200 euros for leaving cigarette ends on the beach at Mogán and 300 euros for smoking at Las Canteras in La Palma.
