The Palacio de Congresos in Marbella is set to undergo its biggest refurbishment in a number of years with the aim of attracting more and larger events to the town.

The town hall hopes to carry out a number of works (including fixing the leaky roof, changing the main stage, reupholstering the seats, changing the flooring, installing new audiovisual and air conditioning equipment and repainting inside and out) and has set in motion an action plan.

It is hoped that the congress centre, which last year welcomed 130,458 people to 241 events (an eight per cent increase on the previous year), will, according to the town's mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, "become one of the most prominent events centres in southern Europe".
