National Police are investigating the death of a British man who was run over in a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of Tuesday morning on the La Alzambra luxury estate near Puerto Banús.

After initial inquiries, the investigation took a dramatic twist on Wednesday when, according to sources, the British son of the victim, his Spanish girlfriend and a British friend were arrested on suspicion of being in the car that caused the accident.

Early investigations pointed to the car being a four wheel drive and that the girlfriend was allegedly driving it at the time.

Apparently the dead man was hit after getting out of the same car.

Appearing in a Marbella court on Thursday, a judge granted bail to the three, who claimed that they had not realised that they had run the man over.

The supposed driver has had her passport removed and must sign in at court every two days. The two male suspects must sign in every two weeks.

Investigations continue and all could face possible charges of manslaughter and failing to stop and give assistance.
