The town of Fuengirola will celebrate its popular Feria del Rosario from Sunday 6 until Saturday 12 October. This is one of the more traditional-style fairs and it offers an extensive programme of activities, including bullfights, equestrian shows and Andalusian dancing and singing.
The daytime fair takes place in the centre of town and this is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the event. Beautiful horses and magnificent carriages are paraded around the streets, while visitors dressed in traditional attire enjoy local gastronomy and participate in the dancing of sevillanas and light flamenco.
At night, the fairground comes alive with a variety of music and dance performances, while concerts by celebrated Spanish musicians are held in the Palacio de la Paz theatre.
The inauguration ceremony will take place in the theatre at 9.30pm on Sunday 6 October. This will be followed by a spectacular firework display that will announce the official opening of the fairground attractions.
The fair is held in honour of Fuengirola's patron, Our Lady of the Rosary, and on Monday 7 October (a holiday in Fuengirola), an early morning flamenco mass is held in the Plaza de Constitución in honour of the Virgin.
The feria also incorporates the town's coveted Festival de Cante El Jabegote - Juan de la Loma, a festival that presents both the pure and the new trends within the world of flamenco.
The feria is preceded by a traditional procession (or 'romería' in Spanish), which will leave the Plaza de la Constitución at 9.30am on Sunday 29 September.
