With the January transfer window almost upon us, Malaga's major priority will be to bring in a new centre forward. With Héctor and Sead Hak¨abanovi expected to return to their parent clubs, Atlético Madrid and West Ham United, respectively, Malaga's recruitment team is looking for competition for the two forward spots.
While Gustavo Blanco Leschuk started the season strongly, his form has dropped off and, paired with the injury to Mamadou Koné, that leaves only youth player Jack Harper as a viable option.
It is understood that Sergi Guardiola is sporting director José Luis Caminero's number one target. The 28-year-old, who helped save Cordoba from relegation last season with 22 league goals, is now at Getafe where he has found game time hard to come by. However, he is not short of suitors, especially in the second division.
Curiously, Guardiola, who previously played under coach Juan Ramón Muñiz at Alcorcón, has never stayed at any team for more than a year.
