After 16 days on strike, taxi drivers in Madrid narrowly voted to return to work on Wednesday. They had been demanding tougher rules for Uber-style cars, which they see as unfair competition.
But, unlike concessions made in Catalonia, the Madrid regional government didn't give ground and, faced with loss of income, the strike was ended. Local politicians are now looking at loosening restrictions on taxis in Madrid to bring them closer to the private-hire business model.
