Malaga port is to operate a ferry service to the Moroccan city of Tangier, 38 years after the previous link stopped running.
The new company, Alborán, formed by Pereger and Baleària, will start operating the weekly crossings, on the Dénia Ciutat ferry, on 28 July.
The service will run from Malaga to Tangier on Saturdays and cover the return trip on Sundays, with a journey time of five hours. The ferry will have a capacity for 360 passengers and up to 300 cars.
The service is expected to be used mainly by residents of Morocco on shopping trips to Malaga and Moroccan nationals resident in Andalucía visiting their home country.
Ferry services from Malaga to Melilla are also to be stepped up to six days a week.
