Councillors in Mijas have recently reached an agreement with residents and businesses to close off some of Mijas Pueblos narrower streets to traffic in the evenings during the peak summer months.
From last Sunday, Calle Málaga, Calle Carril and Avenida del Compás, (which runs down from the village centre to the donkey taxi rank), will be closed to vehicles from 6pm to midnight until the end of the villages feria in September. Only residents with garages on the streets will be able to get past.
Local Police had originally proposed closing the roads from midday instead, but locals objected.
Officials have also prepared the old Mijas quarry site as summer overflow parking for day visitors, with a shuttle bus running into the village, except at lunchtimes.
