The Guadalhorce valley area is to have a brand new hypermarket by the end of this year. The group Costasol de Hipermercados, which already operates Carrefour stores in Torremolinos, Estepona and Mijas, plans to open its fourth venture with the French brand on an area of 5,000 square metres adjoining La Trocha commercial centre in Coín.
Building work has already started on the premises, following the finalisation of the acquisition of the land last month.
The firm's director general, Aurelio Martín, explained that this area was important for the next step in the group's expansion around the province of Malaga, due to its "growing population". "We are confident that Costasol de Hipermercados will become an important organisation for [the area's] inhabitants," he said.
Martín added that the large foreign population was among the reasons for choosing La Trocha, especially as the centre is an important meeting point for the international community.
The new store will have a car park with spaces for 1,000 vehicles as well as a Carrefour petrol station.
The global investment in the project has not been released, however the firm has said that the new store will provide 250 new jobs, directly and indirectly.
In 2006 Costasol de Hipermercados opened its first Carrefour store in Torremolinos. In 2016 the firm celebrated its 30th anniversary; it was founded in 1986 with a store under the name Costasol.
