Marbella Luxury Weekend returns to showcase Costa’s high-end lifestyle
The event brought together displays of glamorous gadgets in a week when new data showed international tourist spending in Spain is up 15 per cent this year

The expensive, aspirational and sometimes outrageously unaffordable came together in Puerto Banús last Friday to Sunday for the Marbella Luxury Weekend.
The event aimed to showcase a wide range of glamorous goods and gadgets and highlight the resorts ranking as the Spanish tourist destination with the highest percentage spend by visitors on luxury after Barcelona.
In a display area on the Puerto Banús quayside, members of the public were treated to an exhibition of the latest models of cars from provider Rentlux, the latest trends in mens luxury fashion from Bench Corner and champagne and oyster tasting.
As a prelude to the weekends activities, the town also hosted Marbella Luxury Forum, which sought to analyse the key to success in the high-end travel and lifestyle market with a succession of different guest speakers.
Foreign tourists spend more
While the luxury market segment was celebrating its success in Marbella, it was also good news for Spanish tourism overall.
Data released by the governments statistics agency, INE, showed that spending from international tourists in Spain reached over 20 billion euros in the first four months of 2017. This was an increase of just over 15 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Britons continue to be the biggest group, representing 18.9 per cent of the total spend. Their spending was up 13.9 per cent year on year.
The survey reveals that foreign tourists spent an average of 137 euros each per day during April, an increase of 5.5 per cent on 2016. Overall each individual tourist spent an average of 955 euros throughout the month.
