Carson City pays a scheduled visit to Gibraltar

The USNS Carson City, an Expeditionary Fast Transport vessel (EFT), visited Gibraltar on Wednesday 6 September.

EFTs are 338-foot shallow draft aluminium catamarans, and are multi-mission, noncombatant transport vessels designed to operate in shallow-draft ports and waterways.

They have a flight deck capable of landing a CH-53 helicopter, a stern ramp for vehicle access to the mission deck, and seating for 312.

The American ships arrival was more dramatic than planned, as a Spanish Guardia Civil boat cut across in front of her as she approached the Rock; it was then followed out of the area by a Royal Navy Rhib.
