Fans of blues, rockabilly, honky-tonk and country music will enjoy the Blues at Moonlight Festival, which will be held at the Hotel Sunset Beach in Benalmádena Costa on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March. This two-day version of the international rockabilly and American roots music festival, which is usually held in November, is organised by El Dandy Festivals.
The festival kicks off at 11pm on Saturday (doors open at 9pm) with a performance by the Jonas Molina Band, a blues outfit fronted by Madrid guitarist and singer Jonas Molina.
Molina began his career on the Madrid blues circuit performing his own compositions and covers of songs from the 1950s West Coast jump, swing and boogie scene. He soon established himself on the European blues circuit, collaborating with numerous renowned artists such as Big Dez, Marco Cinelli and Little G Weevil, among others.
His set pays tribute to legendary blues artists like Earl Hooker, Jimmy Vaughan and Duke Robillard, and he will also perform songs from his latest recording, Wiggle the Wig.
Local boy Bobby B and his band will bring the legendary music of Buddy Hollie and the Crickets to the stage on Sunday night (9pm). The talented young British musician has earned a reputation on the Costa's music scene for his incredible musicianship, playing in several popular bands like The Jersey Boys and Route 66, as well as concentrating on his solo career.
The festival will also present popular American roots music DJ, Tall Mike.
Tickets to both concerts cost 15 euros in advance, or 20 euros at the door. There are also special packages for both nights and accommodation. For tickets and information, see www.bluesatmoonlight.com
